Care
Many body pillow inserts are spot clean only, so a removable cover usually does the everyday work. Read the care label before you buy.
How is one kept clean?
With a washable cover, because many inserts are spot clean only. Some can go in a home washer, so check the listing.
The Mainstays insert is designed for spot cleaning only, with a damp cloth (Walmart). The Naturepedic organic latex body pillow is spot clean only, while its cotton case goes in the machine on cold (Naturepedic). The Yalamila insert, by contrast, can be machine washed cold and tumble dried low (Walmart, Yalamila). A cover with an envelope closure has no zipper to fail; more in which body pillow is right for how you sleep.
Do large pregnancy pillows fit a home washer?
Not always. Check the pillow's own care label, since even one maker's page gives two answers.
Boppy's page says its Total Body pillow fits in most washing machines, while its care notes for the pillow say to use a commercial-size washer or dryer (Boppy). Leachco says to spot clean its Snoogle and not machine wash it, though the cover is machine washable (Leachco).
What about foam and weighted pillows?
Usually the cover is the part you wash. A few foam pillows are machine washable whole.
Coop says both its shredded foam body pillow and its outer cover are machine washable (Coop). Weighted pillows vary more: of the five pages read, two describe a washable cover and one has no removable cover at all (weighted or memory foam body pillow).
